The Governor General's Performing Arts Awards (GGPAA) are presented each year to Canadian artists who have excelled and pushed the boundaries of their art. Whether they've worked in the spotlight or behind the scenes, all the recipients have made a unique contribution to Canada's cultural life.

Since 1992, over 150 exceptional Canadians have received the GGPAA, the country's foremost distinction for excellence in the performing arts.

In addition to celebrating exceptional achievements, the GGPAA builds bridges among Canadians, introducing English- and French-language artists in French- and English-speaking Canada respectively.

CBC is proud to help promote Canadian culture and mark the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards. The awards Gala, open to the public, will be held on Saturday, May 1st, 2010, at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa.
