The Governor General's Performing Arts Awards are Canada's foremost distinction for excellence in the performing arts, recognizing artists and arts volunteers for their lifetime contribution to Canada's cultural life. Created in 1992, the awards are presented in theatre, dance, classical music, popular music, film and radio and television broadcasting. Recipients are nominated by the general public.

Complementing the awards are the Ramon John Hnatyshyn (RJH) Award for Voluntarism in the Performing Arts, and the National Arts Centre Award, which recognizes extraordinary work by an individual artist or company in the past year.
